Also DXOmark tests ( with 5D3 ) indicate for the EF 35mm f1.4 L II, a T stop of T 1.7 the EF 35mm f2 IS a T stop of T2 . Very little actual light transmission difference. For the f1.4 L II lens the sharpness is 18 mp. For the f2 IS lens the sharpness is 20 mp. Slightly better for the f2 lens. For the f1.4 L II the vignetting is 2.2 ev.
The new 16-35 f/2.8 III is sharper at f/2.8 then the f/4 is at f/4 for 16mm. That's much more impressive than I even dared to hope. Even at f/8 the new 16-35 III has a noticeable advantage in the corners. At 35 mm the two lenses are about equal wide open, but the III has a slight advantage at f/8 still. There is also noticeably less fringing
Canon has the stabilized EF 16-35mm 4.0 L IS USM from 2014 (980 EUR) and the EF 16-35mm 2.8 L III USM from 2016 with a street price around 1950 EUR. Tamron offers the stabilized 15-30mm f2.8 Di VC USD for about 1100 USD / 950 EUR. Its widest angle of view is 110 degrees but it lacks 5mm on the long end of its zoom range.
